What is a Digital Signature Certificate (DSC)?+
A DSC is an electronic certificate that links a verified identity with a public key. It allows receiving systems to verify who signed digital data and whether that data was altered after signing.
Is a digital signature legally valid in India?+
Digital signatures issued within the framework of the Information Technology Act, 2000 and applicable CCA rules are recognized for relevant electronic transactions. The destination portal still determines the accepted certificate and signing method.
Are Class 2 certificates still used for normal filings?+
Class 2 issuance for common individual signing use was discontinued and merged into Class 3. Specialized products such as certain document-signer certificates can use different naming and policy treatment, so confirm the exact product.
How quickly can a DSC be issued?+
Timing depends on certificate type, identity readiness, successful verification, payment and issuer processing. Paperless individual cases can move quickly, but do not rely on a same-hour promise for a statutory or tender deadline.
Do I need a USB token?+
Many locally used DSCs store the private key in a compatible cryptographic USB token. If you already own a supported token, its condition and compatibility should be checked before purchase.
Can you take my OTP or token PIN to finish the process?+
No. Never disclose an OTP, private key or token PIN. A support person may guide you, but the applicant must enter secrets directly in the official application or portal interface.
Can I renew without fresh verification?+
Renewal normally involves fresh identity verification under the applicable issuance rules. Start early so an expiring certificate does not interrupt filing or tender work.
Why is a combo DSC used for tenders?+
Some tender systems require signing plus encryption. A combo certificate supports both functions, but you should still verify the specific tender portal requirement before ordering.
